Babywearing Aotearoa and the Australian Babywearing Assn have joined forces to launch a new babywearing week unique to Australia & Aotearoa. Babywearing Week Down Under will be celebrated across Australasia for the fourth time between Monday 9th March to Sunday 15th March 2026 after a successful week of celebration starting in 2023.
Our previous Babywearing Week Down Under celebrations included a week filled with babywearing events such as sling walks, coffee groups, Kangatraining pop-up classes, photo challenges and giveaways. They were a week to highlight how fabulous babywearing is and how it helps not only our parenting journeys, but it also can lead to you finding a wonderful community of parents around you.
It has been great being able to celebrate during the warmer months and in term time making it easier for our volunteers around the country to run events and get out into the community. It is also clear of the New Zealand Baby Expos and Baby Shows which are very busy times for retailers. This celebration has allowed us to introduce more of our babywearing groups around the country, highlight our babywearing consultants and celebrate the baby carrier stockists who are committed to not only providing families with quality baby carrier options, but to also educate parents on how to correctly use them.
Babywearing Week Down Under 2026 will be celebrated by local babywearing groups, babywearing consultants and families who carry their little ones. It also gives retailers an opportunity for in-store and online marketing of their baby carrier range and expertise.
For retailers without babywearing staff or consultants in your team, Babywearing Aotearoa can connect you with local baby carrier experts who you could discuss joint events or activity in your store.
For babywearing groups, consultants and other industry professionals, please start thinking about your plans! We will be happy to help promote your activity.
NZ has previously followed the US babywearing week (which usually fell in the October school holidays) and the European event falls in the NZ Winter. Neither of these times were ideal for a week largely relying on volunteers running often outside events in the community. Babywearing events and celebrations will not be held in October this year, instead efforts are going towards the March 2026 Babywearing Week Down Under.
