The dates for the first Babywearing Week Downunder are March 27th-April 2 2023
Babywearing Aotearoa and the Australian Babywearing Assn have joined forces to launch a new babywearing week unique to Australia & NZ. Babywearing Week Downunder will be celebrated across Australasia for the first time between Monday 27th March to Sunday 2nd April 2023.
Covid has also disrupted so many events, what better time to refresh and reset for a wonderful annual event for our local families and retailers to celebrate all the wonderful benefits of babywearing.
It is fantastic that that we will now celebrate babywearing at a time of the year that works for NZ and Australia. It is clear of all school holidays, is still warm for outside events, is far enough into the year to be past summer holidays. It is also clear of the New Zealand Baby Expos and Shows which are very busy times for retailers.
Babywearing Week Downunder 2023 will be celebrated by local babywearing groups, babywearing consultants and families who carry their little ones. It also gives retailers an opportunity for instore and online marketing of their baby carrier range and expertise.
For retailers without babywearing staff or consultants in your team, Babywearing Aotearoa can connect you with local baby carrier experts who you could discuss joint events or activity in your store.
For babywearing groups, consultants and other industry professionals, please start thinking about your plans! We will be happy to help promote your activity.
NZ has previously followed the US babywearing week (which usually fell in the October school holidays) and the European event falls in the NZ Winter. Neither of these times were ideal for a week largely relying on volunteers running often outside events in the community. Babywearing events and celebrations will not be held in October this year, instead efforts are going towards the new March 2023 Babywearing Downunder week.
